7th and 8th Grade Newsletter:

Feb. 2012

Allhamdullilah, we are done with the first month of this year.  Insha’Allah we will try harder to make this month better than previous month. Here’s what we will  cover this month.

Language Arts
In literature, students will study & analyze elements of literature, short story units, and poetry. They will use various reading strategies and vocabulary skills to aid comprehension. In language arts, they will study, analyze write a persuasive essay with thesis statement, two arguments, one counter argument and conclusion. In addition, they will continue to strengthen basic writing skills.   Test will be taken every Thursday.

Math
Insha’Allah, students will learn about different problem solving approach. They will also learn about exploring probability, Theoretical probability, and Tree Diagrams. We will also  cover  Circumference, Area and Volume.  Test on every Friday.

Science
Students will continue learning about Environmental Sciences. They will analyze ecosystems, biomes, and interactions among the species. Biogeography and succession will also be studied. Test will be every Monday.

Social Studies
In Social Studies, they will learn and discuss important events and how that imparted values that influenced people’s lives: Western Movements, American revolution, War of 1812, and Civil War. They will also learn about the basic foundations of US and Illinois governments.  Test will be taken every Wednesday.

Arts and Crafts             
This month, students will learn knitting and they will continue with color schemes, room designing and room balancing.

Note: Please sign and return tests the next day.

Tajweed:
Students will learn waqf symbols, and rules of Raa. They will also review Al-Qiyamah and An-naba.

Durusul Quran: We will be providing students with the interpretation of Surah Alaq

Test:
Tuesday, February 28- Surah Alaq

Aqaaid: We will focus on the “Beliefs regarding the salient features of Islam.”

Friday, February 24- lesson 7

Tasheelul Hadeeth
: Students will learn Hadeeth regarding Durood and Salawaat in Sallam, Dua Before Salaam, Dua After Salaam and Twelve Rukat Sunnan Mukaddah

Test:
Friday February 24-  Hadeeth 21-25

Qasas-Un-Nabiyeen: We will focus on the trustworthiness and faithfulness of Yusuf (A.S.), along with the warning in the prison, and his vast wisdom.

Test:
Friday February 10-  stories 8 & 9
Tuesday February 28-  stories 10-12

Fiqh: Students will be learning about present day transactions and the method of payments.

Test:
Monday, February 27- Lessons 2,4,10,11

Akhlaaq-Adaab:We will learn the praiseworthy qualities regarding repentance, contentment and love for Allah

Thursday, February 23- Test on lessons 22-25

Dua:Dua when visitng the sick and seeing a Muslim happy

Welcome to 7th and 8th Grade

Asaalaamualaikum!

It is hard to believe that one more year has gone by and a new one is starting. If you are a returning student, Insha’Allah you will find this year to be even better than last year as we at Guidance constantly strive to improve standards and curriculum. If you are a new student, welcome to Guidance Educational Academy where learning experience is nurtured in an Islamic environment.

My name is Amina Lakhi and I am looking forward to be your child’s Islamic Studies teacher this year.  I have high expectations for your child and I will do all that I can to help your child achieve those expectations. I am asking for your help to maintain those expectations by checking with your son/daughter periodically to make sure that his/her work is being done. Your support will not only make your child more successful in school this year but will instill good study habits that will last a lifetime.   I hope to make this academic year, an educational as well as a fun-filled year for the students.

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Lubna Tazeen, and I’m honored to be your child’s Language Arts and Social Studies teacher. I am a graduate in Education and post graduate with Literature and Political Science as my major subjects. This is my third year of teaching at Guidance. I am very excited and look forward to working with you and your child in reaching her full potential.

My name is Ifat Deriwala and I will be your child’s Math teacher.
This will be my first year at Guidance Education Academy. I am a recent graduate of DeVry University
in technical management and I have also done associate in early child care & development. I consider
myself very fortunate and privileged to be among such a professional faculties.

Let me take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Sadia Shafique. Inshallah I will be teaching Urdu and arts and crafts. I am really excited about the opportunity to teach the arts class this year. This is my second year teaching at Guidance Educational Academy. I have a bachelor’s in economics; home economics. I am looking forward to a productive school year.

Assalamu’alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuhu! My name is Safa Subhani and I will Insha’Allah be your child’s Tajweed teacher this year. Alhamdulillah, Allah (SWT), out of His infinite grace and mercy, has blessed me with the remarkable opportunity of completing my Hifz-ul-Qur’an at Darul Uloom Chicago, which was a breathtaking experience that was beyond words.
