8th Grade Newsletter:

I pray to Allah (subhanawata’ala) that you all are in an increasing state of Emaan and good health. Ameen. Alhamdulillah, the students are showing progress in both Islamic and Academic studies. Your encouragement and cooperation is highly appreciated. Here is the overview of the lessons to be taught this month, insha-Allah.

Language Arts
In Literature, students will read informational material, evaluate text format, and analyze its effects. Students will also read nonfiction essays, articles, and speeches. Besides, they will build expressive vocabulary, and complete projects relevant to the concepts they learn. In Language Arts, they will write a book review, insha-Allah. They will demonstrate written English conventions: grammar, spelling, and punctuation as well. *Tests will be on Thursdays.

Math
In Math, along with regular studies, students will prepare for Math Bowl. They will complete some lessons of Chapter 4: Graphing Functions, Scatter Plots and Trend Lines, and Arithmetic Sequences. Students will also begin Chapter 5: Linear Functions, and will also review Chapter 1: Foundations for Algebra and Chapter 2: Equations. *Tests will be on Wednesdays.

Science
In Science, the topic this month will be structures of plants and animals. Students will learn about the characteristics of plants, function of parts of plants, processes of photosynthesis and respiration. *Tests will be on Tuesdays

Social Studies
In social Studies, students will learn Why did Americans take different paths in the early 1800s? Learn about reforms in education and other areas, the fight against slavery, the effort to gain equality for women, and the distinctive style developed by American artists and writers. Last, students will be learning about Americans moving west and conflicts with Mexico.  *Tests will  on Friday.

Note: Please kindly see that the students do revision daily, practice for their tests, and turn in their homework and projects on time.

Tajweed: Students will learn about Ikhfaa and Idhaar, and continue memorizing Surah Al-Mulk

Test: Dec 17- Ikhfaa and Izhaar test, Dec 19- Surah Test.

Durusul Quran:Students will focus on riba, and Halal and Haram

Test: December 18- Lessons 10-11

Aqaaid: Students will focus on The Ahl-Sunnah Wal Jamah.

Test: December 17- Lesson 5

Tasheelul Hadeeth
: Students will focus on the state of a Heart, calling others towards good deeds, spreading Salaam, and the beauty of Islam.

Test:
December 20- Hadeeth 13-16

Arabic: Students will focus on the command verbs, and which words receive a dammah.

Fiqh: Students will focus on Writing Wills.

Welcome to 8th Grade

Asaalaamualaikum!

It is hard to believe that one more year has gone by and a new one is starting. If you are a returning student, Insha’Allah you will find this year to be even better than last year as we at Guidance constantly strive to improve standards and curriculum. If you are a new student, welcome to Guidance Educational Academy where learning experience is nurtured in an Islamic environment.

I would like to thank you in advance for your support and cooperation. I am glad to have your child in my class and I look forward to meeting you at the school open house.

My name is Amina Lakhi and I am looking forward to be your child’s Islamic Studies teacher this year.  I have high expectations for your child and I will do all that I can to help your child achieve those expectations. I am asking for your help to maintain those expectations by checking with your son/daughter periodically to make sure that his/her work is being done. Your support will not only make your child more successful in school this year but will instill good study habits that will last a lifetime.   I hope to make this academic year, an educational as well as a fun-filled year for the students.

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Lubna Tazeen, and I’m honored to be your child’s Language Arts and Social Studies teacher. I am a graduate in Education and post graduate with Literature and Political Science as my major subjects. This is my third year of teaching at Guidance. I am very excited and look forward to working with you and your child in reaching her full potential.

My name is Ifat Deriwala and I will be your child’s Math teacher. This will be my 2nd year at Guidance Education Academy. I am a recent graduate of DeVry University in technical management and I have also done associate in early child care & development. I consider myself very fortunate and privileged to be among such a professional faculties.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child back to school. The beginning of the school year is always a very exciting time for children. My name is Nazia Jalali and I will be teaching Science and Social Studies to 5th -8th graders. This will be my sixth year teaching at Guidance Educational Academy and my second year as a Coordinator.
