6th & 7th Grade Newsletter: DEC. 2012

Asalaamu’Alaikum,
We pray that this letter reaches you in the best of health and highest of Imaan, Ameen. Insha Allah, the following topics will be covered in the month of November 2012.

Math-  This month students will explore probability. They will learn about experimental probability, theoretical probability, and geometrical probability.
Along with probability, they will also review previous concepts. We will practice for math bowl. Tests will be every Tuesday.

Science (6th)– This month 6th graders will explore and learn about Earth's Changing Surface--they will learn how maps are drawn to scale to represent Earth's landforms and topography. Contour lines are used to show elevation and relief. Further, learn that weathering breaks down rock physically or chemically. Soil forms as weathered rock particles mix with decayed organic material, water and air. Last, Erosion and deposition by mass movements, flowing water, ice, waves and wind wear down and build up the land. Tests will be every Monday.

Science (7th)–This month 7th graders will learn that magnetic poles that are alike repel each other. And magnetic poles that are not alike attract each other.
Further, explain that electric current is the continuous flow of energy in the form of electric charge through wire or similar material. Last, an electric current produces a magnetic field and moving a conductor through a magnetic field or a magnet through a wire loop produces an electric current. Tests will be every Monday.

Literature– Students will read, interpret, and analyze stories in fiction and nonfiction. They will analyze how and why individuals, events, and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text. In poetry, they will paraphrase poems and learn about lyric and narrative poetry. In language arts students will write book reviews, and will demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.  Tests will be every Thursday.

Social Studies– During the month of December students will be doing chapter 7: The Revolutionary War, we will discuss how freedom was important to the colonists and that they were willing to suffer terrible hardships and years of war to win it. Further, students will closely focus on chapter 8: Constitution. How United States established a new government and grew larger as more people arrived and lands were acquired. Scheduled tests are taken on Friday.

Tajweed: Sixth Graders will study Surah Naziyat Ayats 20-46. Seventh graders will study Surah Qiyamah.

Test: Surah Test Dec 12. Tajweed Test Dec 14.

Durusul Quran: Students will focus on the interpretation of Surah Zilzaal.

Test: Dec 18

Aqaaid: Students will focus on the beliefs regarding what is the soul.

Test:December 17- Test on lesson 5

Tasheelul Hadeeth: Students will focus on the hadeeth regarding the Placing of the Hands in Salat, Thanaa, Bismillah in Salat, and Imams Recitation in Salat.

Test: Dec 20- test on hadeeth 12-15

Qasasun Nabiyeen: We will be finishing Ibrahim (A.S.) story and will begin the heart rendering and inspiring story of Yusuf (A.S.)

Test:December 20- Test on stories 1-2

Fiqh: Students will focus on “The Pre-Requiseites of Nikah,  The Conditions of Nikah,  Mahraam, and the Wali.”

Test:
December 20 lessons 4-7

Akhlaaq: Students will focus on the the evils and cures to jealousy, malice and hatred.

Test:December 19- Test on lessons  11-13

Dua:Students will memorize the dua for protection against enemies

Welcome to 6th Grade

Asaalaamualaikum!

It is hard to believe that one more year has gone by and a new one is starting. If you are a returning student, Insha’Allah you will find this year to be even better than last year as we at Guidance constantly strive to improve standards and curriculum. If you are a new student, welcome to Guidance Educational Academy where learning experience is nurtured in an Islamic environment.

My name is Amina Lakhi and I am looking forward to be your child’s Islamic Studies teacher this year.  I have high expectations for your child and I will do all that I can to help your child achieve those expectations. I am asking for your help to maintain those expectations by checking with your son/daughter periodically to make sure that his/her work is being done. Your support will not only make your child more successful in school this year but will instill good study habits that will last a lifetime.   I hope to make this academic year, an educational as well as a fun-filled year for the students.

My name is Ifat Deriwala and I will be your child’s Math teacher.
This will be my first year at Guidance Education Academy. I am a recent graduate of DeVry University
in technical management and I have also done associate in early child care & development. I consider
myself very fortunate and privileged to be among such a professional faculties.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child back to school. The beginning of the school year is always a very exciting time for children. My name is Nazia Jalali and I will be teaching Science and Social Studies to 5th -8th graders. This will be my sixth year teaching at Guidance Educational Academy and my second year as a Coordinator.

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Lubna Tazeen, and I’m honored to be your child’s Language Arts and Social Studies teacher. I am a graduate in Education and post graduate with Literature and Political Science as my major subjects. This is my third year of teaching at Guidance. I am very excited and look forward to working with you and your child in reaching her full potential.
